GYMNASTICS------------------ NON-SPORT
Not a sport? The scoring was going so well right up until rules
and competition.
The main problems lie in the fact that 1) judges determine the
outcome, like in a beauty pageant (have I mentioned that before?)
and 2) the fact that competitors never go head to head. I always
enjoy it when the announcer at a gymnastics meet makes the comment
that the gymnast has had "a good performance", you know,
like in a piano recital.
Don't get me wrong, I can't do any of that stuff, but then again
I wouldn't want to, at least not wearing those tights. Just because
most of the stuff gymnasts do defies the laws of gravity doesn't
mean it achieves the necessary criteria to be defined as a sport.
(Astronauts defy gravity too).
Gymnastics received a brutally low score for competition (1 point)
which is why gymnastics ranked as only a recreational activity rather
than qualifying to be a sport.
I know I'm going to get a lot of hate mail for this one, so I'll
spell it out again:
Judges = zero points for rules
No Head to Head competition = zero
No interaction among competitors = zero
Are you getting the idea? Sorry I had to be so rudimentary, but
I don't want thousands of 14 year old girls to not understand why
gymnastics is not a sport!
FINAL WORD: Recreational Activity
