GOLF------------------- NON-SPORT

Once and for all, let it be known, golf is not a sport!

I know what some of you are thinking, every body you know, including yourself, goes out and plays golf every chance you get. But popularity doesn't qualify golf to be called a sport.

Yes, golf takes tremendous skill, which is why golf received a score of 24 points for skill, however there is virtually no athleticism needed, no conditioning, and there certainly isn't any hand to hand combat among the players although that would make it more exciting on TV.

Let's face it, just because golf is hard for the average man, doesn't make golf a sport, Physics is hard too, but you don't see Albert Einstein winning Sportsmen of the Year awards now do you?

Golf is something you do to get out of the office in the middle of the week or something you do on a Saturday afternoon while the wife is out shopping. Golfers are not required to be athletes; the game of golf just doesn't require that type of individual. I know that some of you are saying, "What about Tiger Woods he's a great athlete" he may be, but golf doesn't require it of him, he requires it of himself, just look at John Daly, Monty, Mickelson, etc, they are not great athletes and yet still excel at golf. Whereas other sports like Basketball you must be an athlete to perform well.

In the end, golf lacks sufficient points in the areas of physical exertion (10 points) and competition (10 points).

FINAL WORD: Leisure Activity
